When does it start snowing?

Announced opening dates and a live snow forecast, resort by resort.

The question every June. Short answer: the season starts when the snow does — announced opening dates are intentions, not promises, and depend on early snowfall. Southern resorts (Ushuaia, Esquel) tend to be the safest bets because the cold arrives earlier and stays longer.

Below is every resort with its announced 2026 date and the snowfall forecast at its summit for the next 7 days, powered by Open-Meteo and refreshed automatically. Forecast snow near an opening date is a good sign.

One detail that matters: the forecast is at each resort's summit elevation, and altitude changes everything. The same storm can be rain at 900 metres and half a metre of snow at 2,000 — which is why a low snow park next to a tall resort can show very different numbers, and both be right.

❄️ Combined outlook: 431 cm of snow across the Argentine Andes this week

Dates announced by each resort, subject to snow conditions. Forecast: Open-Meteo global model (blending ECMWF, GFS and ICON) adjusted to each resort's summit elevation, refreshed every 15 minutes. It's indicative — sites like OpenSnow or Snow-Forecast start from the same global models with per-resort fine-tuning, and none replaces the official snow report each resort publishes during the season.
